What society thinks us modern composers do.

So this came out of the blue when I was hitting a brick wall with another piece.

Scary, halloween, castle, medieval, rainy night thing??? I’m good at naming pieces.

Okay so…Big N @ E3.

FAIRY POKEMON CONFIRMED, will now be the only type I ever use.

CAT MARIO! I’m really tired of Mario games to be honest, but that new one actually looks quite interesting.

I really wanted a new FZero game. Got Mario Kart in the style of FZero. Close enough I guess?

DONKEY KONG! I really wanted a new Metroid (REALLY WANTED), but I can dig Donkey Kong too.

That new thing by Monolithsoft, with the mechs and massive creatures, looked quite cool

SMASH BROS. Animal Crossing Villager as a new character? Cool, I guess…

No wait, MEGAMAN? Much better!

Overall, I’m happy with that. I wanted other things, but got some other, interesting games instead.

As fun as the PS4/XboxOne shenanigans are, it’s Nintendo time!!!

Then $549 for the PS4 in Australia???

FUUUUUUUUUUU…

Gotta love the weak Aussie currency

But US$ to AU$ is 0.94:1 currently…

Bloody foreign companies taking advantage more like!

But Sony is Japanese! It’s…

Okay, so, if we assume it’d be exactly the same price as the US (which is a fool’s dream), it would come to about AU$425. Then you think all the things you listed account for a further $124 PER console?

I would have been happy with $500 really, as that would make more sense given the current conditions, but anything over is clearly just price gouging.

Although, there’s not much other choice, when the other main contender is XboxOne…
And WiiU, but I planned to get that sometime anyway. And PC for that matter…

Well, I just did some calculations:

399 USD = 437 AUD (0.9123:1, from Travelex. Good luck finding a better rate; Google does not account for forex commissions.)

Looking at Amazon shipping rates, I’d estimate about $8-10 on average goes to shipping, and about $5 to handling in Australia, bringing the total to about A$450.

10% GST brings this up to about AUD$495.

So we’re paying about $50 above what the PS4 is actually worth. Still annoying, but not quite as outrageous as claimed.

Yeah, I would be more than happy with that price. $500 would be perfectly fine, but the magic $50 that just so happens to appear is still frustrating for me.

Not as bad as some other companies, mind you, but it’s still apparent.

Unfortunately that’s not really a fault of Sony, but rather of the general mentality that most people overseas wouldn’t do their research on Amazon or eBay to save a relatively meagre $50 on a PS4. If you’re an aware online buyer, you’d pretty much never buy any generic product through official channels.

Mind you, it also costs Sony (and other companies) extra money to maintain support centres, international warranties, and various other costs related to international sales that they wouldn’t have to pay if they solely sold their merch in Japan or the US, so they need to claw back these expenses somehow…

That’s what India is for!

I’ll probably buy it anyway, regardless of the extra cost, so I’ve had my traditional Australian whinge for the day.

“That’s what India is for!” And I thought I was the capitalist!

“I’ll probably buy it anyway” Which is why they charge you extra :P

DAMMIT I’m my own problem…
